Job Title: Senior Scientist – Medicinal Chemistry
Job Type: Contract/Full-time
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Medicinal Chemist with expertise in synthesizing combinatorial libraries and operating modern synthesis instrumentation. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience designing and executing parallel reactions, optimizing synthetic routes, and contributing to hit-to-lead efforts. This is a lab-based role within a fast-moving startup focused on accelerating small molecule drug discovery through automation and scalable synthesis.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, synthesize, and purify small molecule libraries using parallel synthesis strategies
Operate and maintain synthesis instrumentation (e.g., automated parallel synthesizers, microwave reactors, liquid handlers)
Troubleshoot and optimize reaction conditions for scalability and reproducibility
Work with analytical teams to confirm purity and structure (LC-MS, NMR, HPLC)
Collaborate with computational and screening scientists to prioritize library design
Maintain detailed experimental records and contribute to internal protocols and workflows
Present results in internal meetings and contribute to decision-making on compound prioritization
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant industry experience
Strong background in modern synthetic organic chemistry and parallel synthesis
Experience in building focused and diverse combinatorial libraries
Proficient in operating synthesis instrumentation and handling multistep reactions
Familiar with purification methods and structural characterization techniques
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced research environment
Preferred:
Exposure to automated synthesis platforms and miniaturized reaction formats
Familiarity with structure–activity relationship (SAR) principles and hit-to-lead optimization
Comfortable working in early-stage drug discovery and startup environments
