Job Title: Senior Scientist – Untargeted Mass Spectrometry
Job Type: Contract/Full-time
Position Summary:
We are a science-driven startup focused on advancing untargeted mass spectrometry for drug discovery. We are seeking a Senior Bioanalytical Scientist with expertise in DDA and DIA acquisitions, electrospray ionization (ESI) sources, and hands-on experience preparing complex biological samples. The successful candidate will play a key role in building the lab’s bioanalytical capabilities and will have the opportunity to grow with the company as it scales.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and execute untargeted LC-MS methods using DDA and DIA acquisition on high-resolution mass spectrometers
Operate and maintain ESI-based LC-MS/MS instruments (e.g., Orbitrap, QTOF) and associated UPLC/nanoLC systems
Design and optimize sample preparation and extraction protocols for complex biological matrices (plasma, tissue, feces, CSF, etc.)
Apply techniques including protein precipitation, liquid-liquid extraction (LLE), solid-phase extraction (SPE), and lyophilization
Maintain a clean, organized, and well-documented lab environment aligned with GLP-like practices.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design experiments and interpret bioanalytical findings.
Author SOPs, method documents, and technical summaries for internal and external use.
Qualifications:
Must have hands-on mass spectrometry instruments
Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field with 2+ years (or M.S. with 4+ years) of hands-on experience in untargeted LC-MS workflows.
Strong technical foundation in DDA and DIA acquisitions. and hands on ESI-based systems
Extensive experience in processing complex biological samples and developing extraction workflows
Excellent hands-on lab skills and attention to detail
Motivated to work in a fast-paced startup environment and contribute beyond defined roles
Preferred:
Background in chemoproteomics, untargeted metabolomics or discovery-stage mass spectrometry applications
Familiarity with early-stage biotech workflows and startup lab operations
